EyeTV brings streaming TV to the iPhone over 3G … with a web app?!

Apple seems to be loosening up its rules about streaming video over 3G via iPhone apps, allowing streaming players and broadcasters like Ustream and Qik into the App store.

EyeTV — a streaming TV provider — isn’t even taking the chance of rejection, though. Instead, they’ve launched an updated web app which allows you to watch TV over 3G using the iPhone’s built-in MobileSafari browser. The App Store version of EyeTV still doesn’t have 3G support.

The web app, called EyeTV Live3G, works with your existing My EyeTV login. Our esteemed sister site, Engadget, initially reported that Apple had granted 3G access to the EyeTV iPhone app, which turned out to be too good to be true.

Maybe one day (when the iPhone is on a better network, perhaps?) we’ll get a streaming TV app in the App Store, but this isn’t it.
